Turon (Banana fritters) is an all time favorite delicious snack or dessert in the Philippines.  The tagalog word "turon" comes from the Spanish turron, a nougat confection that’s a traditional dessert at Christmas.

Turon consists of  saging na saba wrapped like a spring roll and is deep fried.  Jack fruit (langka) sliver is also added over the banana to add more taste and texture.

Turon is a common street food found in the Philippines.

How to make turon
  • Saging na saba, cut in half lengthwise
  • Sliced jackfruit (langka)
  • Spring roll wrappers
  • Raw sugar
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying
  • Place the cut saging na saba on spring roll wrapper.
  • Spread 1 tsp. raw sugar and put enough slices of jackfruit on top of the banana.
  • Roll and seal the edge of the wrapper using beaten egg or water
  • Deep fry until golden brown or crispy; drain oil well onto paper towel
  • Best served when hot.
Note: If you are living overseas and saging na saba are not available, other types of bananas can be used.
