How Pangasinan got its name

The province of Pangasinan is on the western area of the island of Luzon along the Lingayen Gulf and South China Sea.

Pangasinan, derived its name from the word “panag-asinan”, which means “where salt is made”, or “place of salt-making” owing to the rich and fine salt beds which were the prior source of livelihood of the province coastal towns.

At present it is pronounced "Panga-si-nan" based on the Spanish pronunciation.
